How to Volunteer

Thank you for volunteering to welcome refugees to New London.  

In addition to taking the training provided, volunteers are asked to complete the following 2 pre-requisites for working with our clients.

Volunteering with Start Fresh and Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services (IRIS) will involve access to names and other information regarding the families that are clients of both organizations.  Please read and sign both the Confidentiality Agreement and IASC Six Core Principles Statement.  Both are included on the same document which is accessible here. Then either scan and email the signed document to Bill Skeens or mail the signed hard copy to Bill Skeens at 7 Elm Place, Mystic, CT 06355. 

All volunteers having direct contact with clients are required to have a background check. IRIS has contracted with Sterling Volunteers to do background screening. Email Bill Skeens to request a background check. The cost of the background check is $16.00 and must be paid by credit card on the Sterling Volunteer website.
